Job Descriptions

Facilitators

Facilitators are responsible for facilitating conferences between social workers, service providers, and extended families (with an average of 3 - 20 participants).  Facilitators also communicate with participants in advance of the conference to encourage a respectful, collaborative, solution-oriented meeting.

Facilitators share the following duties with recorders:

  • Welcome participants.

  • Purchase food, water, and ice and bring to the conference.

  • Set up the site for a conference (setting up chairs and tables, easel, food)

  • Clean up after the conference.

  • Access database for conference information and reporting updates.

  • Write a report following the conference to be provided to participants (and court personnel as appropriate).


Recorders

Recorders are responsible for recording the "group memory" by writing on easel paper during the conference.  This information will be referred to during the conference and used to write a report after the conference which is sent to all participants.

Recorders share the following duties with facilitators:

  • Welcome participants.

  • Clean up after the conference.

  • Access database for conference information and reporting updates.

  • Write a report following the conference to be provided to participants (and court personnel as appropriate).


Coordinators

Coordinators do the preparation work in advance of conferences, including:

  • Communicate with social worker or case manager, family members, and service providers via telephone to determine: purpose of conference, people to invite, areas of concern and/or conflict to be discussed at the conference.

  • Invite all parties to the conference.

  • With participants, determine a convenient site, date and time.

  • Communicate conference information to facilitators and recorders.

  • Enter conference information into database.


Youth Circle Facilitators

Facilitators are responsible for facilitating Youth Circles between the youth, social worker, service providers, and extended family (with an average of 3 - 20 participants).  Facilitators are responsible for having an in-person visit with the youth to explain the Youth Circle program, determine whom the youth would like to invite, and the choice of food to be served.  Communicate with participants in advance of the conference to encourage a respectful, collaborative, solution-oriented meeting.  Communicate with social worker or case manager, family members, and service providers via telephone to:  Invite all parties to the conference; Determine the date and time; Find a convenient site.
